N.S.PRO Modus3 Tour · Luxury Black Series

There is a temptation, when a shaft goes black, to assume something changed. A darker finish reads as a different product — more aggressive, more premium, more something. The N.S.PRO Modus3 Luxury Black Series exists specifically to defeat that assumption. Nippon Shaft has taken the Modus3 platform — a shaft already trusted at the tour level for its control and its transition through the swing — and changed only what golfers actually see, while leaving untouched every gram, every millimetre of balance point, and every degree of torque that makes it play the way it plays.

Black steel shafts have a history of disappointing the golfers who choose them. Most rely on a painted or topically coated surface, and paint does not survive golf. It survives the showroom. It does not survive being pulled from a bag a few hundred times, or a bunker shot that catches the shaft instead of the sand. The Luxury Black finish is built differently. Rather than sitting on top of the steel, the colour is established through a plating process — a trivalent chromium method, patented under Japanese Patent No. 3964227, that integrates into the surface itself rather than coating over it. It is the same technology Nippon Shaft uses on its Luxury Silver putter shafts, and it produces a matte black that holds its depth and texture across a full season of play rather than chipping down to bare steel at the first sign of bag wear. The matte surface carries a secondary benefit at address: less glare off the shaft in direct sun, which matters more than most golfers expect until they've played without it.

The environmental case is not an afterthought. Trivalent chromium plating reduces the environmental load of the manufacturing process significantly compared to the conventional plating methods still used across most of the industry — a detail Nippon Shaft has chosen to build into a flagship finish rather than bury in a footnote.

Underneath the finish, nothing has been renegotiated. The Tour 105 retains its lightweight profile and controlled trajectory. The Tour 120 keeps its mid-weight feel and the smooth load-to-release transition it's known for. The Wedge series — offered in 105, 115, and 125 gram weights — holds its mid-kick point design, built for the distance control and greenside spin golfers fit these shafts for in the first place. What you are buying is not a new shaft. It is the shaft you already trust, finished the way the tour increasingly wants it.
